Helmholtz Association
The Helmholtz Association has 16 research centres, making it Germany's largest scientific organisation. It addresses major and urgent issues facing society, science and industry in six research areas: Energy, Earth and Environment, Health, Key Technologies, Structure of Matter, and Aeronautic, Space and Transport.
Future Megacities:
In the context of their sustainable development, megacities worldwide are specially exposed to the challenges of climate change and energy security. This is being addressed in nine countries by the projects in the funding priority area on future megacities of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) – “Energy and Climate-Efficient Structures in Urban Growth Centres” – and the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres’ initiative "Risk Habitat Megacity". A selection of projects from Peru, Chile, Ethiopia, Morocco and China is presented.
